Day 1:Wed. WINNIPEG. Welcome to Winnipeg! Enjoy time at leisure to relax or to do some independent exploring. Set on the banks of the Red River, the name Winnipeg stems from the aboriginal word win, meaning muddy, and nipee, meaning waters. Founded by the North West Company, Winnipeg has grown to be a city of approximately 600,000 people. This evening is at leisure. Your Tour Director is on hand this evening to answer any questions.
Day 2:Thu. WINNIPEG–CHURCHILL. This morning, board a flight to Churchill, located on the western shore of Hudson Bay. Discover unspoiled landscapes, clean air, pure water, and the “Land of Nanook”—the polar bear. Upon arrival, enjoy a tour of the town and local area. Visit CAPE MERRY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE, established in 1746, and the world-renowned Polar Bear Compound. This afternoon, the tour continues with a visit to the ESKIMO MUSEUM with its collection of Inuit carvings and artifacts that are among the finest and oldest in the world. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 3:Fri. CHURCHILL. Board the famous Tundra Buggy and seek out the amazing polar bear. Your guide and driver will use their vast experience to position the buggy for the most advantageous view for photography. See the bears playing, rolling in the snow, and even inspecting the Tundra Buggy. This unique vehicle is well-heated, restroom-equipped, and has a viewing platform on the back. Lunch is included. (B,L,D)
Day 4:Sat. CHURCHILL. After breakfast this morning, enjoy a DOGSLEDDING excursion. Meet the team of friendly huskies, hear stories, and learn dog-handling philosophy from an expert. Enjoy a mile-long dogsled ride through the northern boreal forest along with hot chocolate and freshly made bannock. Learn more about these incredible animals and the important role they play in this region of the world. You will also visit the PARKS CANADA INTERPRETIVE CENTRE, where you’ll learn more about the history, wildlife, and culture of the Churchill area. The remainder of the day is at leisure, with time for additional sightseeing, souvenir shopping, or just relaxing. (B)
Day 5:Sun. CHURCHILL–WINNIPEG. A second day out on the tundra offers the opportunity to observe the Great White Bear and the relationship it forms with other wildlife species. Late this afternoon, board a flight and return to Winnipeg. (B,L,D)
Day 6:Mon. WINNIPEG. The trip ends today with guests departing on individual schedules. Transfers are provided to Winnipeg Airport.
